The S6 have the option to take part in a higher performance skills unit in PE – it will run over a minimum of 2 periods per week with an expectation of independent learning/training out with the allocated PE periods

It is advisable that only candidates with a strong interest in physical education should embark on the course.  Pupils should display a high level of responsibility for their own learning and should only consider this course if they are well motivated.

The aims of the course are to, improve fitness through personalised training, develop performance skills in a range of activities and improve decision-making and problem solving skills within competitive games.

  • Fitness testing
  • Strength and conditioning
  • 5k run training
  • Volleyball
  • Invasion games – depending on pupils, might include football, basketball or rugby
  • Badminton

 

This course is assessed as a pass or fail and is worth nine SCQF points.

The assessment will be ongoing throughout the year and pupils will need to demonstrate consistency, accuracy and control in a minimum of two activities to pass.

As well as performance development, pupils will also cover the following literacy, employability and thinking skills during the course:

  2. Physical and emotional wellbeing
  3. Working with others
  4. Analysing and evaluating
