Tarbert

Parent Council

Who are we?

We are parents & carers of children at Tarbert Academy, who work with the teachers and leadership team at our school to ensure the best possible educational experience for every child. Here are some of our team members – reach out to us anytime!

Marylou (PC Chair), Julie (Treasurer), Michael, Kirsty, April, Jeanne, Karen, Angela, Mhairi, Anna, Leanne and Collette

What do we do? How can you get involved?

Our main aim is to support our school to be the very best it can be, and to try to represent all parents & carers by promoting close cooperation between the parent forum (you & me!) and the school.

We meet with the school Leadership Team once a month during term time to ensure that the voices of parents & carers are heard by the school, and that our feedback and ideas form part of the school’s day to day work, and the planning and improvement of the school’s future activities and goals.

You are always welcome to come along!

We act as a place where parents & carers can share ideas, interests and skills for the benefit of the school. Schools face ever increasing funding cuts, so pulling resources and opportunities in from our wider village community is really important. For example, the Parent Council have used their connections, fundraising skills, and sheer hard work to make Primary playground improvements that benefit all of the Primary pupils.

What skills or connections do you have that might benefit our school?

Are there any activities or events that you would like to support the school to achieve?

We support the education and welfare of the children at our school.

Our fundraising activities allow us to contribute to the day to day work of teaching and supporting the children of Tarbert Academy, bringing down costs for families and enabling the school to purchase equipment and resources that would otherwise fall outside of school budgets. Parent Council funding has made possible the purchase of updated textbooks across all subjects, French dictionaries for every S1 pupil, and much needed equipment and resources for Science, Technical, Physical Education and Home Economics; it has brought down costs for field-trips and excursions, and funded swimming lessons; we have made playground improvements, purchased Christmas decorations, gifted Leavers’ Hoodies and contributed funds to the Senior Prom; we have supplied outdoor clothing & equipment, and purchased new resources to tackle bullying and improve well-being.

We would love your help to continue these fundraising efforts!

We meet to discuss issues and opportunities that affect the whole school.

Whilst it’s not appropriate for us to get involved in issues relating to individual children, we can help to raise concerns or issues that relate to the wider school community. For example, if you are concerned that your child is experiencing mean or bullying behaviour, you should talk directly with the school. At the same time, the Parent Council will be talking with the school Leadership Team about the school’s Bullying & Relationship policies, pupil survey feedback, what might need to change in the wider culture of the school, how we can help with updated anti-bullying resources etc…

Your child’s class teacher or the Deputy/Head teachers are there to help you if issues arise for your child – Tarbert Academy has an open-door policy for all parents & carers.
