Sports Day

The weather held out for Sports day today with perfect conditions - not too hot and a light breeze to keep the midges away.
It was great to see the whole school together on their walk through the village and then the games themselves.

School Captain/Vice-Captain

Following a selection process involving presenting to assembly, interview by panel and voting by students and staff, I am delighted to announce that our new school captain is Becky Wilkieson and Vice-Captain is Craig Smith.

I look forward to working with them both to help us to offer the best possible opportunities to our young people at Tarbert Academy

Many thanks to all 5 applicants, I was very impressed with the quality of performance and I am very proud of them all.

Thanks also to the interview panel: PC Alan Frame, Ms James and Ms Law

Road to Rio

Congratulations to P6/7 for reaching their target of running the distance from Tarbert to Rio de janeiro - an amazing 9450km

Many thanks to all members of the community who helped the pupils along the way by running with them or donating their own kms

Show my Homework

We had a successful staff training session recently on a new web based package designed to help parents, pupils and staff keep track of homework.

It will go live after the Summer holidays but we will be trying it out and sorting out any problems in the next few weeks.

The link to the site can be found under 'useful links' on our home page

S5/6 induction day

We had a very successful induction day for our senior pupils yesterday.

Iain Jurgensen, General Manager of Portavadie Marina, very generously invited us to hold our induction day at Portavadie this year.

The facilities were , of course, excellent and Iain's team looked after us extremely well - the Pizza and ice cream went down particularly well with the young people.

We had a very informative talk from Iain on the employment opportunities potentially on offer at Portavadie and the kind of skills/qualities he is looking for in future employees.

Drama Club

Congratulations to the Drama Club for their excellent performance of 'The Pilgrimage' last night in the school.

They demonstrated why they won best youth group at the Argyll Drama Festival recently.

It was a particularly emotional evening for Miss Bell as this was her last show (she retires on Friday) - she almost had me going at one point.

Many thanks to Miss Bell and Director, Mrs Connor, for all the hard work and dedication over the years which has led to such successful performances from our young people.

Successful Pupils

We had more news of successful Tarbert Academy Pupils recently:

Our 'Robot' team got through to the final of the Meccano Meccanoid Competition and won a 'Johnny Half Pint' robot - well done boys!

You can see the boys presenting to the judges at

Thanks to Dr Romans for coordinating the boys' entry

Our Drama Club entered the Argyll Drama Festival recently and won the Youth Achievement Trophy for best Youth Group - well done to all involved!

Music Centre Equipment

The Tarbert Music Centre is no longer operating and has decided to donate their equipment to the school.

I am delighted to accept the equipment and I am very keen to work with those members of our community with musical skills if they are willing to share their skills with our young people.

The donated equipment includes:
6 electric and 16 acoustic guitars
14 violins of assorted sizes
11 accordions
2 drum kits
1 microphone stand, assorted speakers, electrical equipment and 3 amplifiers.
